Opening and refurbishing retail units in high-traffic shopping centres requires far more than construction work; it demands planning, coordination, and exhaustive control at every stage. At Abessis, our experience in retail projects allows us to deliver complex stores while preserving brand identity and ensuring every detail is faithfully reflected on site. The Hollister project is a clear example of how precision, creativity, and rigorous execution come together in practice.
Our collaboration with the Abercrombie & Fitch Co group began in 2019 at the Lagoh Shopping Centre in Seville, where the main challenge was the double-height façade. This intervention—carried out while the shopping centre itself was still under construction—required meticulous planning and coordination with multiple stakeholders. The result was a spectacular façade that not only modernised the unit but also increased its visibility and commercial appeal, marking a turning point for the brand’s presence in Spain.
Evolution of the store image: From iconic porches to open, light-filled façades
Over the years, we have supported the brand’s evolution from stores with the traditional porch and dark-toned interiors to a far more open and contemporary language. First, by replacing those closed entrances with large glazed panes that enhance interior visibility, and by renewing façades with black-toned composite cladding—cleaner and more current. Then, in its latest image phase, the leap has been qualitative: noble façade materials (selected tiling, crafted stucco, timber slatting) alongside the return of the corporate blue as a key identity element. Inside, spaces have become more open, with light palettes and high ceilings that allow greater natural light and a clearer read of the product. The result is a brighter, more permeable, and up-to-date store that improves brand recognition from the outside and the shopping experience within.
The combination of aesthetics, functionality, and comfort is essential for a brand like Hollister to maintain its positioning and build loyalty among shopping-centre visitors.
International coordination and logistics
One of the most relevant factors in these projects has been planning and logistics management. Hollister ships many of its materials from the United States, which requires timely receipt, condition checks, and anticipation of potential issues. Our team manages the entire coordination process—from receiving and quality-controlling materials to planning their installation—ensuring everything fits seamlessly into the build.
Our people—from Project Managers to site supervisors—have been key to these projects. Meticulously interpreting drawing details, coordinating trades, and overseeing each stage enables us to deliver complex projects with a high level of precision. Constant supervision ensures progress stays on track and any contingencies are resolved efficiently.
Experience in complex retail projects
Beyond Lagoh, we have delivered other projects for the brand in shopping centres such as Bonaire in Valencia, Nevada in Granada, and La Maquinista in Barcelona—one of the largest in Spain. Some of these projects involved converting existing units, such as the Abercrombie store at Gran Plaza, 2 in Madrid, where we transformed a previous space into a new, modern, and functional store.
These cases demonstrate our ability to manage large-scale builds, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure that every detail—from the façade to the interior finishes—meets the client’s expectations and the brand’s standards.
Turning brand vision into reality
The Hollister case shows how exhaustive planning, logistics coordination, and constant oversight are essential to delivering a successful retail project. From receiving international materials to handing over a fully renovated unit, every step of the process is designed to meet deadlines, control costs, and guarantee quality in every detail.
